The People of Twyford – A Profile
The 2011 census gives Twyford a population of 1595 which is an increase of 139 from the 2001 census. 744 of inhabitants are male and 851 female. 97% of inhabitants are in good or fair health though, according to the 2011 census, 23% of households contain someone with a long term illness or disability.
The proportion of population over 65 is relatively high at 24%. This is higher than for the Winchester area as a whole, of which it is part, and where the increase has been 50% over the past 20 years.
The population is well educated and employment levels are high. 45% of those over age 16 are qualified to degree level or higher. Over 60% of economically active females (those aged between 16 and 74) are employed or self-employed which is only 15% less than the figure for males.

HCC has recently prepared an estimate of the current population and age split. This shows a population increase of 51 since 2011(i.e. to 1646), and a further significant increase in percentage of people over 60. See chart left.
